P4Web "add" Help Page

[Return to "How to Use P4Web"]

The Add new files command allows you to open one or more files for addition to the depot. These files may or may not already exist in your client workspace.

Command:

When you are ready to open the files for addition, click on the Add new files button.

Unless otherwise specified, the files will be opened for addition with a default filetype assigned by P4Web, and the files will be opened for addition in the default changelist.

Options:

Open using file type:

A file's filetype indicates both how the file is handled on the client and how it is stored on the Perforce server. A filetype can be specified either alone as filetype or by specifying a base filetype and using the supported type modifiers in the form filetype+modifiers.

If you wish to explicitly specify the file type, activate the checkbox in the Options menu and enter the desired filetype in the space provided.

If you don't specify a filetype, P4Web will assign one based on its best guess as to the type of the file. This is the most common way to set a new file's type. (If you don't specify a filetype and the file doesn't yet exist in your client workspace, P4Web will assume the file to be of type text.)

Open files for add in changelist:

If you have more than one changelist pending when you run the Add command, a checkbox and a drop-down list of currently-pending changelists will appear. To open files for addition to a specific changelist, activate the checkbox and use the drop-down menu to specify the desired changelist.

Files:

Enter the paths to the files in the Files: dialog box. You may enter either a full path name to the file, or a path relative to the one specified in the Files in //directory heading.
