You might have noticed that Perforce has a new look and a new logo that reflects our place in DevOps workflows. This new branding will also change the way we talk about our industry-leading version control solution and ecosystem of products.
I’m excited to share that Helix Core is now Perforce P4, and a select number of corresponding tools within our digital creation suite are now unified under the Perforce P4 Platform.
These changes serve to better reflect where our company and products stand today, while also better aligning with where we’re headed. It has been a privilege seeing the Helix Core product family evolve over my six years with Perforce and I am looking forward to unveiling all that we’ve been working on.
In this blog, I’ll walk you through why we made these changes and share a glimpse of what’s coming next for P4.
A Bit of History
Back in 1995, our founding CEO, Christopher Seiwald, started the company out of Alameda, California. What began as a version control system first known as “Perforce” (and often just called “P4” for short) quickly grew into something larger than anyone could have imagined. This product became the foundation of not only our company, but also of a growing product suite centered around the mission of enhancing developer workflows.
In 2016, company ownership changed hands and a corresponding acquisition of Seapine Software and its ALM solution, “Test Track” (now known as “Perforce ALM”), required us to change the name of the product originally known as “Perforce.” At that time, company leadership settled on the name “Helix Core”.
I joined the team in 2019 as a Senior Product Manager of Helix Core and continue to lead today as the Senior Director of Product Management. Partnering closely with our engineering team, I’ve had the privilege of helping drive the product’s growth and transformation. Together, we launched Helix Core Cloud—a Perforce managed and hosted version control designed for teams under 50—and released innovative Helix Core features like lightweight branching, virtual file sync, and delta file transfer functionality. On top of that, we’ve introduced new product offerings such as Helix DAM, a digital asset management system aimed at binary asset search, reuse, and review that is tightly integrated with Helix Core
Alongside the evolution of Helix Core, I’ve also seen the growth of Perforce as a company. By bringing diverse DevOps tools into our portfolio, we’ve equipped our customers to embrace complexity in this new age of efficiency and move their businesses forward.
Back to topThe Next Chapter for Helix Core and Introduction of the P4 Platform
Reflecting on the journey of Helix Core, this rebrand is both a step forward and a return to our roots. Since the beginning, our users have become accustomed to the "P4" terminology through clients such as P4V and P4Merge, and commands such as “p4 sync” and “p4 submit”. This shift to formally adopt the P4 name is a reflection of that long history.
Perforce Rebranding
With Perforce undergoing a broader rebrand, we saw the perfect opportunity to realign with our mission and larger portfolio of products. By consolidating some of our digital creation products, tools, and APIs under a P4 Platform banner, our team is able to focus on creating a single and more seamlessly integrated ecosystem to better support our customers. These products signal a future where integration with P4 is either required or strongly recommended in order to realize the full value of the product.

Along with that change, we’ve also purposely kept some of our products adjacent to the P4 Platform banner. While these products can integrate with P4, we want to clarify the fact that they all have reasonable use cases for being used independently of P4.

Evolving P4: Building for the Future of Digital Creation Teams
As we think about our future roadmaps and vision for P4, and the suite of tools that comprise our P4 Platform, our team is focused on building products that support increasingly collaborative and distributed teams.
By focusing on interoperability across the P4 platform (including P4 Code Review, P4 DAM, and P4 Plan), we can ensure that every part of your workflow—from version control to project delivery—has a connected backbone to support your team’s goals.
While our logo and product names have changed, our commitment to delivering reliable features and elevating your workflows remains the same. I’m grateful for our incredible customers and am excited to continue to enable teams to create without limits.
